Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

The Prosperity Gospel

August 29, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

One of the major problems with the so-called “prosperity gospel” is they operate from a flawed premise. We were not called to health, wealth, and peace. We were called to suffer (1 Peter 2:20-21). You can’t pick and choose the verses you want that seem to support your idea and ignore the rest of God’s Word. The Lord said any man who takes away from His Word will not inherit eternal life.

Yet, Sunday after Sunday, the most popular preachers on the most popular stations and platforms espouse a gospel that is centered on you rather than on God. They twist and interpret God’s Word in such a way as to ignore the bigger picture, all with the hopes of drawing ever more people into their teaching and congregation.

Discouraged?

August 8, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

Are you feeling tired or discouraged? Life has gotten more challenging for Christians in the West in recent years. While our brothers and sisters across the globe have long been dealing with pressures worse than we currently face, for most of us, persecution is new. Pastors in Canada are jailed simply for holding a church service. Churches in America are occasionally overrun with protesters.

The pressure to conform to society’s ideas of wrong and right or face ostracization is rampant. This is not the world in which most of us grew up. Having spent most of our lives at ease, the time has come when our faith is being put to the test. For some, hope seems lost. But take heart; this is not the end. Your reward is coming.

The Tragedy of Neglect

July 28, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

Few things are more detrimental to your walk with Christ than ignoring the little things. The tragedy of neglect is that good habits disappear quickly when left untended. The disciplines you’ve instilled in your life that have allowed you to make great strides in your walk with Christ can dissolve overnight if you don’t do the work of maintaining them every day. Cherished relationships wither and fade if we do not feed them.

We must renew our commitment to living the life of a disciple every day. We can never take our foot off the pedal and begin coasting. There are no days off. Without daily attention and determination, the pull of sin will undermine everything we live for and relegate us to a weak and wasted life.

No Neutral Position

July 18, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

In a world of compromise and so-called “tolerance”, we must remember there is no neutral position in Christ. We are for Him or against Him (Mark 9:40; John 3:36), and we can never stand in a middle that does not exist. Today’s culture regards those who accept whatever is popular as the favored class. Those of us who push back against the tide of perversion, selfishness, and immorality are branded as outcasts and even criminals.

Light has no fellowship with darkness (II Corinthians 6: 14; Ephesians 5:11), so we must abstain from drinking from the fountain of popular thought. The temptation to go with the flow is great, but if you are truly for Christ, you must stand firm on His Word and obey His commands.

Living a Godly Life

July 11, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

What does it look like to live a life pleasing to God in everything we do? Living a godly life should be the aspiration of every follower of Christ. We all know that, but often struggle to discover how this plays out in practical terms. Inconsistency marks our lives, and we can well identify with the lament of the Apostle Paul: “I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate…” (Romans 7:15).

King David wrestled with this as well and laid out some signposts for us to live a godly life. To wholly devote our lives to Christ, there are practical things we can do every day to live the life He created us to live.
