Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Do You Know Jesus?

February 21, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Many have said knowledge is power. This isn’t exactly true. I like how Darren Hardy put it: “Knowledge isn’t power. What you do with it becomes powerful, but only if you do it consistently.” It’s not enough to know about Jesus. It’s not enough to know the Bible inside and out. If you never do anything with all your knowledge of God, it will never count for anything. You’ll still go to Hell, probably spouting Bible verses all along the way.

In addition, if we are not consistently implementing what Christ has taught us, our lives will fall far short of what He designed and created us to do. He doesn’t want us to simply know about Him, or even to just believe in Him; He wants us to know Him. Do you know Jesus?

Your Personal Philosophy

February 18, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

My mentor, Jim Rohn, often spoke about having a personal philosophy. What he meant was to be intentional and have a plan for how you would live in each area of your life. For example, among others, we should have a financial philosophy, a relationship philosophy, and first and foremost a spiritual philosophy. When it comes to being a disciple of Jesus, the spiritual philosophy is what must drive all others.

If we mess this one up, we will not recover. But if we get it right, we can overcome any other failure or tragedy in life. What’s your personal philosophy when it comes to following Jesus? Have you ever thought about it?

The Meaning of Life

January 31, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Instead of thinking about what you might accomplish in your day, year, or life, focus instead on how others might be impacted by your words and actions. This life isn’t about us. It’s about God and others, although you would never know it by much of our modern culture. Forget about trying to learn this truth from Hollywood or Madison Avenue.

This life – your life – exists solely to glorify God and to serve others (Matthew 22:37-39). So, instead of calculating what you might do with your life, perhaps instead determine how your life can have the greatest impact for God and for others. This, after all, is the meaning of life.

No One Gets a Pass

January 28, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I don’t know if it’s the way I’m wired, or I developed into this over time, but I am a driven and goal-oriented person. I believe I’m here for a purpose, not just to drift through life. It doesn’t even make sense to me God would create us to pass through life without intention. The apostle Paul told us we have all been created for specific work (Ephesians 2:10).

So, even if you don’t consider yourself to be driven or goal-oriented, it’s important to understand no one gets a pass when it comes to living their lives for Jesus. Each follower of Christ is mission-bound to live with purpose and intention. It’s how Jesus lived and how we must also if we are serious about living as His disciple and patterning our lives after His.

Go All the Way

January 17, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

While apparently never finding truth himself, Buddha is credited with a wise quote I find applicable to our Christian walk. It is reported he said, “There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth…not going all the way, and not starting”. How tragic it is for anyone who never embarks on a journey of pursuing Christ. I don’t understand it. I can’t even conceive how they get through a single day.

I find believing in anything but Jesus requires far too much faith and suspension of disbelief. But that is all fodder for a different article. Since I’m assuming most if not all the readers of this blog believe Jesus is indeed the Son of God, I want to focus on those who begin their faith journey but quit too soon.
