Do It Now

August 16, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

don't wait,procrastinate,act now,action,take action

We all have things we have been putting off, tasks that never seem to get done. Generally the things that get pushed aside are things we know we should do but are also things that will require some sort of sacrifice from us. Our tendency is to lean into things that don’t require much time or effort, but shy away from the duties that eat into our “me time”. While this may never be a great habit for getting things done, the habit of procrastination becomes absolutely lethal when applied to our spiritual lives. With no guarantee of another breath, it is imperative we seek Jesus In this moment and do whatever he tells us to do… right now.

If You’re Not Dead, You’re Not Done

August 13, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

what does it mean to be a disciple,storied interactions,tim sherfy,half time,second acts

At a recent conference, I heard Craig Groeschel say, “If you’re not dead, you’re not done”. Many of us think that we have missed the boat, missed our calling, and missed our opportunity to do great things for the Lord. We spend half our lives trying to determine what God has called us to do, and then spend the second half lamenting the fact we didn’t discover it earlier. The Bible contains examples of God’s servant’s that were young, middle-aged, and elderly. It makes no distinction between age and ability to be used for the purposes of God. I think our reasoning of being too old is nothing more than an excuse for our inactivity.

Mission Trip to Africa

On August 2nd, eighteen year old Kelsey Williams left the comforts of home to serve Christ in Africa (Jinja and Fort Portal, Uganda) for two weeks. This is an extraordinary commitment for anyone, let alone a young woman of her age. Kelsey boldly lives out her passion to serve Jesus. She was kind enough to answer some questions and allow me to share her answers with the readers of this blog.

Culture Wars

July 30, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

not of thsi world, prosperity gospel, christians and technology

It is virtually impossible to be a disciple of Jesus Christ without living a life of self-discipline. Following Jesus means our focus shifts from being self-focused to others-focused. While this sounds noble and good, it is ridiculously difficult to implement. Our culture has so indoctrinated us with the pursuit of things we “need” and “deserve” that it becomes extremely easy to rationalize spending our time and money on things of earth rather than Heaven. Even within the church there are those that preach that following Jesus leads to prosperity and good fortune. This is contrary to what the Bible teaches (2 Timothy 3:12; Luke 9:58); serving God is all about thinking less of ourselves and more of others.

Thinking About Your Story

July 12, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

legacy,autobiography,story telling

What story are you telling with your life? Is it something you intentionally write or are you just waiting to see what might happen along the way? God has blessed us all with opportunities and situations throughout our lives that shape who we become. What is the common thread that runs through your story? Is it a story of love or one of bitterness, deceit and regret? As followers of Jesus, our lives should read of the beauty of our Father and His all-encompassing love. Perhaps you’ve not ever taken time to consider the story your life is weaving. If not, I encourage you to begin today. Here are three areas on which you should focus.
