Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Stand Firm

June 6, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

As the days continue to grow more dark and evil, it becomes increasingly urgent for the Church to stand firm and hold its ground, advancing as we have the opportunity. The darkness has been pushing hard against the light and gaining ground we would have never thought possible in the past. Meanwhile, the churches in the land seem content to appease the sinful advances in hopes of everyone getting along.

Jesus did not come to make a way for everyone to get along. He didn’t sacrifice His life so darkness could coexist with light. He died and rose again to provide a way out of the darkness and death. We are called out of the dark, not to accommodate it. The Word of God does not change. It is steadfast, and it is final.

Whatever You Asked

May 12, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

What if God would give you whatever you asked from Him? What sort of things would you pray for, and therefore possess? This isn’t far-fetched, right? Didn’t Jesus promise to give us whatever we asked for (John 15:16)? It is fascinating how taking only half a verse, and out of context, can quickly morph into a presumed truth taught by so many.

It’s not just the obvious Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith teachers who push this nonsense. I’ve heard it from supposed evangelical preachers as well. We’ll dive into the context of what Jesus said, but first, it’s worth taking a moment to answer my initial question: “If God gave you whatever you asked, what would you possess and how would your life be different?”

Jesus is Alive

April 18, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

Fresh off the sobering week contemplating the last week of Christ’s life, we turn the corner to celebrate the fact that Jesus is alive! Death could not hold the Son of God. The grave held no sway over the power of the Holy Spirit. His resurrection gives hope and assurance to every believer. This world, with all of its sickness, disease, violence, and evil, will one day kill our bodies.

But by the power of our Lord Jesus, it can’t keep us in the grave either. The resurrection power of Christ lives in each one of us. His death demonstrated the dreadful fate of every man. His resurrection guaranteed eternal life to all who will surrender their lives to Him. Jesus is alive, and because He is, we too can live in eternity with our Creator.

The Long View

March 17, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

The world takes the short view of things, but Christians must take the long view. It’s another way of saying followers of Christ must live with an eternal rather than temporal perspective. While we should cherish every moment entrusted to us by God, we must live in such a way as to always be living for what will matter 10,000 years from now, not what will matter tomorrow.

Life as a Jesus follower should never be about instant gratification or momentary pleasure. We have an eternal purpose and must live accordingly. Don’t get caught up in the things of this world and seek to improve your place in it. Instead, train your desires toward things that last and will glorify God.

Aliens and Strangers

March 14, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

We’re aliens and strangers in this world (1 Peter 2:11). When we turned our lives over to Jesus, we became homeless in this world and began longing for our true home with Christ (1 Corinthians 5:1-3). The closer we draw to Jesus, the more we recognize how out of place we are in this world. Our desires do not match those of society. Our actions often fly in the face of earthly logic and common sensibilities.

There is a constant sense of being different, of not fitting in here. We don’t feel at home because this world is not our home. We only find peace in the presence of Jesus because He is our home. Having our eyes awakened to spiritual reality, the physical and temporal world can never again captivate us. Indeed, we have become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
