Generalities

Christians love to speak in generalities.  As long as we don’t get too specific, we can all just get along. As long as we don’t get too specific, we can live just like everyone else. Did you ever notice how Jesus only dealt in specifics? It was as if He didn’t even recognize gray as a color! Jesus never left any wiggle room; it was always black or white. As followers of Jesus, our own lives should be identified by the specific things we do, not by some general sense of what we believe. A general knowledge of anything yields little; specific action is how results are delivered.

Every Breath

November 18, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

I just returned from a conference where I heard Francis Chan speak. He emphasized taking a deep breath and then realizing it could be the last one you ever get. Our lives are so finite. Most of us don’t think a lot about death.  The younger you are, the less you will think about it and the further away it will seem. While this statistically makes sense, we have all heard of those who were cut down in the prime of their life. An unexpected diagnosis or accident brings what once seemed so far away into the present reality of our here and now.

Is This the Day?

September 16, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first,second coming,ressurection,Jesus return,revelation,no man knows the hour

As followers of Christ, there are a couple of things we all believe. We believe He lived, died, and rose again. We also believe He will return one day to redeem His followers. If you aren’t a believer, some of that can seem hard to swallow. But for those of us who have dedicated our lives to Jesus, these are the basic truths that are as comfortable as breathing to us. Perhaps that’s the problem. As breathing requires no conscious thought, neither does the life that so many of us claim to be living for Christ. We believe the right things, talk in the approved manner, and even attend the obligatory meetings. As living a Christian life has become second nature, we risk eternal salvation not only for ourselves but for everyone who has not yet come to Jesus (Matthew 7:21-23).

Much is Expected

May 7, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Luke 12:48, which says, “Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.” I feel like I have been given much, and perhaps even more than that. Chances are you are in the same boat as I am. I’ve referenced the site before, but in case you are a new reader, check out the Global Rich List web site. Simply type in your income to see where you rank among the rest of the world. My guess is you will see that you have indeed been given much.

What Does it Mean to Believe?

March 8, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

Clapperboard

You might look at the title of this post and wonder how I could ask such an obvious question. I think we all have a concept of what it means to believe something. The dictionary defines ‘believe’ as “to accept something as true”. So if we accept that Jesus is the Son of God then it could be said that we believe in Him. But the more I study and learn about what the Bible teaches, I think the word “believe” means so much more. In the pages of Scripture, belief is always accompanied by action as if one could not be separated from the other.
