God’s peace is sometimes difficult to find amid the daily media barrage. But it is always there, waiting for you to relax into it. Jesus said, “My peace I give to you” (John 14:27). His peace transcends any fear, anxiety, or difficulty we will ever face. We need not fear any storm. Christ has proven He can calm the waves with a simple word (Mark 4:35-41).
Nothing can overwhelm us so long as He is with us. There is nothing to fear. Satan would have you believe otherwise. He will do everything he can to unsettle you, to make you fearful, and to make you doubt. You can always be certain the devil will use every tool at his disposal to distract you from keeping your eyes on Jesus.
These days we have more things competing for our attention than any time in history. Television, the internet, and a relentless barrage of news media can overwhelm our senses. All of it is being used to fill your mind with fear, doubt, envy, distrust, and hatred. By contrast, the Apostle Paul encouraged us to dwell on things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable (Philippians 4:8). The author of Hebrews told us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus throughout our entire lives (Hebrews 12:1-2). When our eyes are on Jesus, we bulletproof ourselves against the attacks of the devil.
There is no need to fear what is going on in the world today. There have been trials before, and there will be more in the future. As Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived once said, there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). What we are going through today did not take God by surprise. Our omnipotent Creator has had a contingency plan for every permutation of every choice or development since He started the clock ticking on what we call time. He has a plan to bring good out of any evil and chaos Satan and our sin will cause. He has always, and will always, emerge as the victor. No matter how desperate things might appear, God is near. He’s got this, and He’s got you.
God’s peace is the antidote to everything you are feeling. We all want a little peace in our lives, and God’s peace is inexhaustible. He is gracious and will supply all you need. Calm down. As best you can, block out the incessant noise of the voices screaming terror into your brain. It would be helpful to turn off the television and stay off social media for a while. Take a break. Breathe. Remember who God is. Think of all He has done throughout history and recall the times He has turned impossible situations in your past into blessings. God’s peace is all-consuming if you will allow it to be. Ask Him for more of it today. Give Him your fears, frustrations, and anxiety. Leave them at His feet and collapse in His arms. He will carry you through this storm.
