Milquetoast Christianity

December 12, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

A milquetoast Christianity has infected our churches and our faith. We have been lulled to sleep by decades of compromise. What passes for Christianity today seems normal to us and no cause for alarm. Brothers and sisters, the house is on fire and everyone is sleeping through it. We do the things the world does, talk the way the world talks, and pursue the same things those without Christ pursue.

We are called to live differently from those around us, to be a sacred priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). It is obvious we are not fulfilling our call. We have surrendered the fight in favor of obtaining the things of this world and the lusts of our flesh. The worst part is, most of us are so numb we don’t even know it. The battle is lost and we are oblivious to the tragedy.

No Santa in Christmas

December 8, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

For followers of Jesus, there should be no Santa in Christmas. I realize I probably lost half of you right there thinking this would be some legalistic diatribe or Scrooge-inspired missive. But if you are serious about the Lordship of Christ, I hope you’ll hear me out. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year because of Jesus and nothing else.

The whole “good will toward men” thing happens only because the Prince of Peace was born into this world a couple of thousand years ago. It is the birth of our Savior that brings joy to the world. The peace and joy of Christmas find their source in the birth of Jesus and nowhere else.

Be Faithful

December 5, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

In a world where moral decline is progressively moving the ruling parties toward open hostility against Christians, it can cause a lot of anxiety concerning the future. That persecution is coming is no longer a question, but only a matter of timing now. How should we, as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, respond in times like these? The only thing we know for certain is things will get worse before they get better with the second coming of our King.

Until that day, I think the best thing we can do is to be faithful. One day we may be called upon to make the gut-wrenching decisions between freedom on earth or remaining loyal to Christ, between providing for our families or denying Jesus. Our steadfastness then will depend on how well-equipped we are to face those moments.

Sin Has Consequences

December 1, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

While it seems obvious to say, sin has consequences. Everything we do against the holiness of God will subject us to punishment. Despite what many think, or what casual observation appears to reveal, no one can thumb their nose at God and get away with it. Our God is holy and sin cannot exist in His presence. It is only His patient love and goodness that prevents Him from incinerating this world right now.

There have been periods of great evil in the history of our world, and we are certainly living through a devastatingly wicked period right now. God is patient, but He will not remain so forever. Someday, perhaps very soon, the righteous anger of our holy God will be unleashed and destruction awaits all those who refuse to bow to Him as Lord.
