Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus
Are you still waiting for divine revelation to strike like lightening before you engage in building the Kingdom of God here on earth? If so, I have some great news for you. That revelation occurred 2,000 years ago when God walked among us in the person of Jesus Christ. You and I have been commissioned since the day we committed our lives to Jesus. The time to get started is now. No more excuses, no more rationalizations. You are equipped to begin right now.
How are you building the Kingdom today? I don’t think it’s a question we often ask ourselves. If you happen to be one of those deranged souls like myself who obsess over planning and time management, are you scheduling Kingdom moments into your day? If you are more of the “make it up as you go along” crowd, how often does that translate into making something for the Kingdom? If we’re honest, the truth is despite all we know and our best intentions, we are still squeezing God into the margins of our lives. It’s painful to recognize this is not what the life of a disciple should look like.
Most of us aren’t in danger of ruining our lives, but we are in danger of wasting our lives. We are far less likely to make a catastrophic mistake that forever messes up our lives than we are to simply watch life pass us by as we sit idle on the sidelines, mired in our mediocrity. The greatest danger we face is not becoming the person God has created us to be. Our greatest challenge is to begin moving towards becoming that person even when we have no idea where we’re going. God hasn’t called us to map out our journey, but rather to follow Him.
Its blogger month at Compassion International, and a group of bloggers are banding together to raise awareness of children in need. The goal is to get 3,108 additional children sponsored this month. You can read more about sponsoring a child in a previous post I wrote (“Sponsor a Child through Compassion”). Each week Compassion is giving the bloggers an assignment or “theme” about which to blog. This week the challenge is to write a letter to God about child sponsorship. Not being quite certain how to go about this, I just began to pour out my heart to God concerning this topic. Below are the words that spilled out as I talked to God about the issue.
In the life of every true follower of Christ, there comes a moment when lip-service faith is no longer good enough. At some point we recognize that the status quo isn’t getting it done. The things we have always been taught begin to ring hollow. We recognize how shallow we have been swimming in the ocean of love that is the spirit of God. This is when we must choose to dive deeper and discover what it means to live life as an authentic follower of Jesus or to continue living in dangerous mediocrity (Revelation 3:16). This is the moment of truth, and our eternity hangs on the decision we make.
