Never for Nothing

April 23, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

Do you ever grow discouraged in your walk with Christ? People who reject Him, spit on His image, and defame His name go unpunished and even seem to live more carefree and happy than we do. Are you ever tempted to ask, “Is this all worth it?” Wouldn’t it be easier to just stop trying to follow Him and swim against the tide than to always seem to face conflict and struggle? (Psalm 73:3-5)

Maybe you wonder if the payoff will be worth the price? When the world is intent on wearing you down (John 16:33; 1 John 5:19), doubts will creep into the hearts of even the most steadfast. But following Jesus is never for nothing. It is worth the struggle, and He is always worth the pain. (Romans 8:18; Hebrews 12:11)

Final Destination

May 1, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Life presents no shortage of challenges. Physical injuries, mental health issues, and emotional distress can make the best of us wonder why we even bother to get up some days. The circumstances of life leave no doubt we live in a fallen world. For those of us who profess Jesus as Lord, there is a meaning to this madness.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and a purpose for our pain. It borders on the cliché to say, but this world is not our home (Hebrews 13:14). We are here for only a little while, and then we will at last find rest in our final destination. If we can hold on to that truth, we will see this life is more than worth the struggle.

The Bottomless Sea

July 9, 2015 by Tim Sherfy

C.S. Lewis once said, “Remember that the ‘bottomless sea’ can’t hurt us as long as we keep on swimming.” That’s important to remember when we are going through dark times in our life. Jesus never promised a life spent pursuing Him would be easy. In fact, He told us it would be anything but easy (John 15:18-20, John 16:33, 1 Peter 5:10, James 1:2-3).

Still, it is easy to question where God is in the midst of our struggle. We feel as if we’re drowning and see no way to get back to the surface. I can think of no better advice than what Lewis gave: just keep swimming! God is always closer than you think. He’s right beside you, reaching out His hand (Matthew 14:27-31).
