What are You Afraid of?

August 10, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

What are you afraid of? There are a multitude of things in this world that make us fearful. Natural disasters, violence, death, tragedy, injustice, job loss, lack of food or shelter… the number of things we could list is almost endless. The more pervasive sin becomes, the scarier and riskier this world appears.

No one is safe from the depravity of man, but Christians have historically been singled out for some of the worst abuses this world dishes out. While many minority groups have experienced long periods of horrific mistreatment, it is Christians who have most consistently been persecuted for the past two thousand years. This is because Satan’s war is against anyone who calls on the name of Jesus.

Our Brothers and Sisters

July 31, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

“Christians in other nations are not a topic about which we can be uninterested or a cause that we can occasionally champion. They are our family, our brothers and sisters for eternity,” writes Voice of the Martyrs president Cole Richards. Violence against Christians is ramping up in many nations. As the days grow shorter and evil increases, the people of God are increasingly finding themselves the target of man’s hostility.

Because we may still have a modicum of religious freedom where we live is no excuse to forget our brothers and sisters who are suffering. We should be on our knees every day praying for their strength, perseverance, and deliverance. We must also realize that the same persecutions are coming for us, and we must be ready to stand with the same resolve as our brothers and sisters.

In Six Days

May 15, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

I’m probably going to lose some of you today, but that’s okay. I must speak the truth, and the truth is offensive to those who are not fully committed to it. Too many Christians compromise their belief in the Word of God in favor of the wisdom of men. Simply writing that statement should reveal the foolishness and futility of such a belief. Any time we opt for man’s wisdom over God’s Word, we set ourselves at odds with God and proclaim we know more than He does.

My topic today is with the creation account as recorded in the Bible. The Word of God says the Lord created the heavens and the earth, the land and the seas, the animals, and all of humanity in six days. The best Hebrew scholars throughout history affirm there is no other way to understand those six days other than six literal twenty-four-hour days. That is what God says He did, and that is what He did.

We Will All Face Persecution

March 2, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

How can I be certain we will all face persecution? First and foremost, I know because Jesus told us we would face it (John 16:33). We need no other proof. Jesus speaks only the truth. He cannot lie and is never wrong. What you may have never considered, though, is the “why” behind Jesus’s proclamation. Jesus established the foundation here. He said the world would hate us because it first hated Him (John 15:18).

They didn’t just hate Jesus for who He said He was, they hated everything He did. The fact many were following Him incensed them even further. So whether it is Jesus or a follower of His, the hatred of the world will burn hot. But there is still a deeper “why” behind such hatred that if we understand, I think it will help us deal more effectively with the persecution that is sure to come.

The Gospel

January 26, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

There is a plethora of bad teaching out there today. So many voices saying so many things about Jesus and the Bible. How do you know who to listen to and who to ignore? Trusted voices I’ve been quick to recommend in the past have proven to be unfaithful in recent years and are no longer proclaiming the simple truth of the Bible. The so-called “Prosperity Gospel” is spreading like wildfire with its focus on health, wealth, and success.

Test

Progressive ideology is misleading people by the tens of thousands. The most popular churches and most popular preachers are teaching a gospel that is no gospel at all. With all this in mind, I think it’s important to restate what the gospel, the true gospel of Jesus Christ, really is.
