Don’t Forget the Good News

In a world inundated with bad news, don’t forget the good news! The good news is, of course, the gospel of Jesus Christ. No matter how much is changing in the world, the good news is Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). While everything around us may feel like the world is constantly shifting like sand beneath our feet, the good news is our feet are actually secure and planted on the rock of Jesus (Matthew 7:24-27).

These storms and trials will not sweep us away. This will not be the end of our story. For those who proclaim Jesus as Lord, our eternity is already written. There will be no surprise ending. The future is sure and ends with us in the arms of Jesus. That is truly good news!

Information Overload

How do we keep things simple in an age of information overload? We need to focus on the basics and what is real. So, what do we know for certain? We know we have a sin problem. On our own, we can’t live up to God’s standard. He is holy; we are not. We know God sent His only Son to die in our place. Jesus paid the price for our sin. We know Christ will return one day and we will live in His presence forever.

There will be no more hurt, no more sickness, no more division, and no more pain. This is what is true. These are the things we know. Amid so much chaos and the deluge of information, both true and false, we must keep our focus on the truth of the gospel of Jesus and nowhere else.

Tell Someone About Jesus

Much of what we discuss here is about personal discipleship. Almost nothing is more important in the life of a believer than growing in their relationship with Christ. But if all we’re doing is growing in our faith, we won’t be doing everything Jesus told us to do. Our primary mission is to reflect God’s light into a dark world, and we can’t do that well unless we tell someone about Jesus.

The last command Christ gave before ascending into Heaven was to go throughout the entire world telling people about Him (Matthew 28:18-20). This passage of Scripture has come to be known as “the great commission”. Notice Jesus didn’t say to isolate ourselves, devoting all our time to prayer and Bible study. He said to tell everyone about the good news of His life, death, resurrection, and salvation.

This blog is focused on discipleship. It’s my hope the words written here will instruct and encourage you to live your life wholly devoted to Christ and to become the person He created you to be. Much of my own life is spent learning more about Jesus and what it looks like to walk in His footsteps. My passion is to see others embrace and love Him for the holy and magnificent God He is. There are still billions of people on this planet who have never experienced the love of Jesus. They don’t know Him like you and I do. Sadder still is the fact there are hundreds of millions who have never heard the gospel even once. Worst of all, these are all people who are destined for an eternity separated from God’s love, mercy, and presence.

Hell is Real

I am a firm believer the key to leading people to Jesus is through building relationships with them so we might be able to demonstrate God’s love and character to them. At the same time, we must never lose the urgency caused by the reality of Hell.

Despite the modern propensity to focus only on the more pleasant parts of Christ’s teaching – namely Heaven –we do a great disservice to the world if we don’t at least occasionally remind them Hell is real. It’s not popular, but it is necessary to talk about this. Otherwise we risk delivering only half the story and distorting the Gospel of Jesus.
