Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Becoming an Intentional Disciple

Too many self-proclaimed Christians believe that maturity in Christ will happen automatically over time. They think the longer they have known Him, the more they will know about Him. None of our other relationships work this way, so why should we expect our relationship with God to be the exception? We might have the same mail delivery person for twenty years, but odds are we will never actually know them. We probably know their name and might even recognize and wave to them at the grocery store, but that is generally as deep as our relationship will ever go. Unless we make a conscious effort to understand what makes the other person tick, to share dreams and aspirations together, to help one another in a time of need – until we do those things, we can’t truly be in a relationship with them. Yet we think with God this dynamic will somehow be different. We believe that since He is God and we said a prayer to Him, our relationship will magically blossom and all will be well.

Much is Expected

May 7, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,God first

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Luke 12:48, which says, “Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.” I feel like I have been given much, and perhaps even more than that. Chances are you are in the same boat as I am. I’ve referenced the site before, but in case you are a new reader, check out the Global Rich List web site. Simply type in your income to see where you rank among the rest of the world. My guess is you will see that you have indeed been given much.

Putting God First

Ask almost any Christian at church on Sunday what their priorities are, and they will instinctively tell you that God is first and family second. Saying so simply does not make it true. If God were first in the lives of all who proclaimed to know Him, our world would not be in the mess it is today. For that matter, if family was indeed the second priority, we would not find the divorce rate among Christians to be statistically the same as that of non-Christians (The Christian Post). We have been taught what we’re supposed to say, but there is an absolute disconnect between our lips and our reality.

Give Me Just Enough

April 16, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

greed,materialism,servitude

One of my favorite Bible passages is Proverbs 30:8-9:

Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me.
Give me neither poverty nor wealth;
feed me with the food I need.
Otherwise, I might have too much
and deny You, saying, “Who is the LORD?”
or I might have nothing and steal,
profaning the name of my God.

In our materialistic Western society, we are encouraged to constantly acquire and consume. If we could sum up our modern culture in one word, I think that word would be “more”. [Read more…] about Give Me Just Enough

God’s Will for Your Life

April 12, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

It seems so many Christians are desperately seeking to find God’s will for their lives. From my observations, perhaps no other question causes more stress in the life of a believer than this one. I’ve seen far too many Christians paralyzed over not being able to figure out the exact path God wants them to walk. Instead of doing something that would further the mission of Christ, they become frozen in the fear of doing anything outside of God’s perfect will for their lives. As one of my favorite authors, Greg Boyd, reveals in his upcoming book, “The Myth of the Blueprint”, Christians have allowed secular influences to color the way we understand the will of God. We’ve twisted the message of what God’s will is for the Church and narrowed it down into seeking what His will is for our individual lives. That’s not in the Bible; it’s only in our own selfish and short-sighted interpretation.
