Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Beyond Sunday Morning

September 16, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

As followers of Jesus, we need to move beyond Sunday morning. It’s easy to pretend how much we love Jesus when we gather with other believers. I cannot help but see the disconnect in the lives of myself and others when we proclaim our devotion to His mission on Sunday but forget about it as soon as we walk out the door. Our lives are not centered on our Savior. They are centered on ourselves.

We are the center of our own universe. On any given day, how often do you think of yourself as compared to thinking about Jesus? What percentage of your thoughts are around what you need to get done around the office and the house as opposed to what you need to be doing for the Kingdom?

Doing the Work

September 12, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Without a doubt, we are saved solely by the grace of God; there is nothing we can ever do to earn our salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). On our own, we are all disqualified from salvation, because each of us has sinned and fallen short of God’s standard for eternal life (Romans 3:23). If not for the loving grace and mercy of God, we would all be lost and without hope. Thanks to His love though, we need not despair.

Because of His amazing grace and the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf, we can be saved from the hopelessness of sin. We can have hope because death is not the end for those who place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. I believe the sincerity of our faith is proven by doing the work He has given us to do (Ephesians 2:10). Our salvation is free, but it is not cheap.

Fully Equipped

September 5, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

There is great comfort in knowing God has given us everything we need to do the work He has called us to do. No matter how big or difficult the task before us looks, we are fully equipped to get the work done. Why are we so hesitant to move forward when deep inside, we know we are fully equipped to handle whatever comes our way? Within each follower of Jesus is the Holy Spirit of God Himself.

We have immediate access to all the power of God in every given moment. Ask yourself, “Would Jesus be afraid of doing what I know I should do next? Would Jesus wilt under pressure and turn aside to go an easier way?” Of course, the answer to both questions is no. Knowing Jesus is not only with us, but within us, why do we hesitate?

Drifting

August 15, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I recently heard David Platt say, “no one drifts towards holiness.” I have observed the truthfulness of this statement in my own life. When we aren’t intentional in the way we are living, the tendency is to drift into sin, not holiness. Unless we are vigilant, we will allow ourselves to be distracted and the drifting will begin. Life is rarely static.

We are always moving in some direction. Even when we think we’re standing still, the currents of life are still compelling us in the direction of their own choosing. Unless we are purposefully setting a course, we will soon find ourselves drifting to places we never intended to go.

Moving Towards God

August 12, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I enjoy finding things secular writers write which are applicable to our Christian journey. It proves Jesus can use anyone at any time to speak to us. Seth Godin recently wrote, “It is possible to spend your entire day moving towards something you seek. Alternatively, you can spend your time running away.” This is true in our Christian walk. We can spend each day in determined and intentional pursuit of Christ, or we can fill it with trivial distractions and run away from Him.

We choose how we will spend each minute, every hour, and every day. No one controls our time except for us. We make the decisions. We choose whether we will spend the next moment thinking of God or thinking of ourselves. We choose what we will look at, listen to, and the activity of our hands.
