Laser-Focused

July 15, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

Our lives and attention are fractured by the myriad distractions in our world. Every new technology seems designed to further demand our attention through relentless buzzes, beeps, and flashes. Society moves at an ever-quickening pace inflicting an ever-growing list of demands upon our lives. Between our jobs, families, friends, and careers, it can be hard to maintain focus on anything at all.

We become overwhelmed and exhausted and end up medicating with drinks, pills, substances, and mind-numbing entertainment. We seek peace in whatever it takes to distract us from all the distractions! There is a better way. There is an answer to the relentless assault on our senses. We need to re-train our minds to be laser-focused. We need to stop the insanity and pursue the only One worth pursuing.

Nominal Christians

July 8, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I despise blasé Christianity. Nominal Christians have done great damage to the Kingdom of God from the inside out. Nothing agitates me more than a nominal Christian. I know, because too often I am one myself. When we practice Christianity in name only we do a great disservice to our Lord. The term Christian is supposed to mean we look like Jesus. Christians, by definition, live for Christ.

These days, it has come to mean many things and rarely does it mean someone who has completely devoted their lives to serving Jesus and building His Kingdom. In fact, I’m pretty sure those of us who choose to stand firm in the pursuit of Jesus are going to be branded as being politically incorrect and out of step with modern society. Good. I’m okay with that. They said the same things about Jesus.

Don’t Give Up

July 1, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

God has chosen You. He is pursuing You. There is work for which You have been uniquely designed to do. This work will be done if we will only hold fast, keep our eyes on Jesus, and don’t give up. Satan roams around like a roaring lion seeking to destroy you and your dreams (1 Peter 5:8). The devil will do whatever it takes to take you down. Through trials, temptations, anxiety, fear, and discouragement, he will pull out every stop to dissuade you from pursuing Christ and all He has given you to do.

Don’t give up. Don’t give in to the lies of the adversary. Only you can do the work God has created you to do. While your talents and gifts may seem insignificant to you, they are a vital part of God’s plan for building His Kingdom here on earth. So, stay strong and don’t give up.

Timeless

June 27, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

There is so much noise in our world today. It seems everyone has an opinion on everything, and if you happen to disagree with their opinion then you are one of the intolerant or unenlightened ones. Historically, opinions have never been in short supply. This much isn’t new. What is new are the multiple platforms people have available to voice their opinions.

Traditional and social media never sleep and are never quiet. Much – if not most – of what is being talked about has little value. It certainly has no eternal value. It is just noise, and distracting noise at that. There remain real issues in this world, real problems in need of a solution. Perhaps it is easier to focus on made up crisis than to confront what is really going on.

How Will You Live?

June 24, 2019 by Tim Sherfy

I don’t want to just live my life. I want to live my life for Jesus. It’s so easy to get caught up in the flow of day to day activities and cultural expectations. But if we live our lives like everyone else, we will have missed the point and wasted the years given to us by our Creator. Life for followers of Christ should be so much more than working in our jobs and hanging out with friends and family.

If we do those things without an eye towards building God’s Kingdom, then we are no different from those without Christ. Our lives must be different. You can not encounter the God of the universe and come away unchanged. If you have surrendered your life to Jesus, you are no longer your own. You are no longer like everyone else.
