Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Discovering God’s Will

June 7, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

As I have frequently espoused on this blog, we already know what the will of God is for our lives; we need simply read the Scriptures. We’ve often looked at the parable of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25 which gives a very clear, concise overview of the things we should be doing.

Discovering God's Will

The Bible is a large book, so I appreciate those sections that pack so much into a small portion of the text. However, we need to be careful and not simply stop with Matthew 25. Everything we need to know is revealed in God’s Word, so we do well to constantly survey the wisdom and instruction contained within its pages. [Read more…] about Discovering God’s Will

Are We Doing What Jesus Would?

June 5, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

What is your response when you see images of starving children on TV? Do you turn the channel in search of more entertaining fare, or do you linger and watch the unimaginable images on the screen? Are you moved to take action or do you make excuses and expect someone else to help?

How do you imagine Jesus would respond to the site of starving children? Do you react in kind? It is important to step back and assess our responses to the needs all around us to be certain we are doing the work we have been called to do. [Read more…] about Are We Doing What Jesus Would?

Do Great Things

June 2, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

Many of us get stuck thinking that our lives are insignificant and we don’t have the ability to make a difference in our world. We forget we have been created to do great work for Christ. The reason we know the work we do will be great is because it is done for the glory of God.

Do Great Things

Anything done in His name not only has eternal impact but it also means that we are fulfilling our destiny. Nearly everyone wants to live a life of significance, to leave a mark on the world. There is no better way to do this than by living out your purpose in life. [Read more…] about Do Great Things

No More Excuses

May 31, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

We are great at making excuses. When God calls us to do something for Him, it seems we have a ready arsenal of reasons He needs to ask someone else. In fact, judging by own life and observations of life in general, there is apparently no right time to do the work of the Kingdom.

No More Excuses

Sometimes we’re too young, while other times we’re too old. We don’t have enough money to help, or we have too many resources to be able to sacrifice them all. Whatever the request, we always seem able to manufacture an excuse as to why now is not a good time. [Read more…] about No More Excuses

Psalm 119

May 29, 2011 by Tim Sherfy

I remember as a kid how daunting Psalm 119 was. Weighing in at an impressive 176 verses, it is the longest chapter in the Bible, so you knew it was going to take some time to work through it. Because of this, I remember avoiding it and focusing on the much shorter psalms that surrounded it. My mother, on the other hand, absolutely loved this Psalm. In fact she committed it to memory, which to me (even today) seemed somewhat unfathomable!

Psalm 119

However, as I read through the Bible chronologically this year, today was the day that Psalm 119’s number came up. Actually, according to my reading plan, I was only required to read half of it. However, like a tall glass of Pepsi or a mouth watering chocolate chip cookie, you can’t stop half-way through and save the rest for later; you have to devour the whole thing. Psalm 119 is a beautiful reading filled with longing for God. I found myself praying that I would have half the desire of the author to seek after my Creator. [Read more…] about Psalm 119
