Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

I Follow Jesus

February 24, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

I follow Jesus because I’d be lost without Him. When I look around at this world and see the evil pervading it, I know I need someone to guide me through. As I encounter difficulties in life, I’ve often asked, “How do people without Christ get through the tough times? Where do they find their comfort, peace, and strength? The answer is typically in temporary medications like alcohol, drugs, sex, entertainment, or other vices.

The problem is the letdown on the other side is even worse because the problems don’t go away. Numbing the pain is not the same thing as having someone carry it for you. Jesus is my rock, and my refuge, my shelter from the storm (Psalm 18:1-2). He’s my deliverer, comforter, and Savior (Psalm 23:1-4; 2 Corinthians 1:3; Isaiah 12:2). I am nothing without Him.

Our Stronghold

January 13, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

God is our stronghold. It’s a truth spoken throughout God’s Word. A stronghold is a place that’s been so fortified, it is impenetrable. These days, we might call them bunkers or safe rooms. Historically, they were forts, often carved out of a mountainside. Strongholds were the area of last resort when a kingdom was being besieged.

They were self-sustaining and people could live there for years while they waited out the attacks of the enemy. It was the safest place one could be, and once inside, they had little to fear from outside forces. And so it is with our stronghold, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are never safer than when we place our life within His.

God is Our Strength

October 18, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

How are you feeling these days? Are you excited and full of energy, or are you worn out and unsure of how to keep going? Life can seem a bit hopeless at times. We all get tired. With division and hatred being the rule of the day, it’s easy to feel a little lost. When your resolve is waning, remember, God is our strength. God did not mean for us to figure this all out on our own.

God created us to be in relationship with Him. When the world was perfect and new, The Lord would walk with Adam and Eve every evening. If humans needed Him in the middle of paradise, how much more do you imagine we need Him now?

Seek God First

September 9, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Wealth will fail you. It cannot save you. Only God is trustworthy and able to save. We can gain the whole world and still lose our soul (Mark 8:36). What good is that? Seek God and His Kingdom first and He will meet your needs (Matthew 6:31-33). What an amazing deal! If we seek God first, our lives automatically get better.

Not because all our problems will melt away, not because we’ll suddenly find fame, fortune, and happiness. No, your life will be better because you will be living in the will of your Creator. You will live the life God designed you to live. This is the goal to which we should all be aspiring every day.

A Wartime Mindset

April 29, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Followers of Jesus should live with a wartime mindset, but most of us are strolling through life as if we are in the greatest peace-time in history. We take spiritual things lightly and give significant weight to the physical world. It’s the most short-sighted strategy we could adopt, and the devil continues to deceive us into believing we are being smart. One thing I know for certain is no matter what comes out of the mouth of Satan, it will be a lie (John 8:44). So whatever he puts in our mind, we should do the opposite. Immediately.

We are not at peace. We are at war. Your soul, the soul of your family, and the souls of your friends are under attack. Satan wants to distract you from the truth, so he distorts it. The longer we believe we’re not living in a war zone, the harder it becomes to break out of the stupor and see the battle raging around us.
