Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Why Don’t They Know?

April 5, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

So many in the world today have never heard about the love of Jesus. When Jesus left this earth, His last command was that we go into all the world telling people about His love and salvation (Matthew 28:18-20). And yet 2,000 years later, while there are more professing Christians on the planet than at any other point in history, there are also more people than ever that do not know Jesus as their Savior. I have a great burden for those around the world who have not yet heard.

I also have great admiration for those courageous men and women who leave the safety and comfort of their current situation to go into extreme circumstances to teach the people there about Jesus. Not all of us can go to other nations. Our responsibility is no less than theirs. Because while they are going to unreached people groups, people who don’t know Christ surround us as well. Many of our friends, neighbors, and coworkers have not heard the Gospel. Since we are right in the middle of them every day, I have to ask, “Why don’t they know about Jesus?”

Trust Him

March 22, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

It is not uncommon when praying to reason with God and present our arguments why He should grant our requests. The idea would be laughable if not so common. While God wants us to bring our petitions before Him (Philippians 4:6), when we do so, we should simply lay them at His feet. God knows everything we need (Matthew 6:31-33) and has the context of every person and event past, present, and future.

Therefore, He alone can make the wisest decision regarding our appeal. When we go on about why Jesus should give us what we are asking for, we make ourselves a foolish babbler, filling our prayers with many words that impress no one except ourselves. Again, Jesus knows what we need before we even ask Him (Matthew 6:7-8). We can trust Him, and we must if we want to have a vibrant prayer life.

Trust God’s Word

February 22, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Early in the book of Genesis, there’s a familiar passage that’s one of those that is easy to gloss over because it is so familiar, or we fail to see its relevance in our world. Genesis 15:6 says, “Abram believed the Lord, and He credited it Him as righteousness.” Abram simply believed what God told Him, trusted it would come to pass, and as a result, God blessed Him and considered Abram to be His friend (James 2:23; Isaiah 41:8).

It was a simple interaction. God spoke to Abram, Abram believed God, Abram received God’s blessing, and his relationship with His Creator flourished. When God speaks to us, do we believe Him? Do we trust He will do what He says He will do? As we read through Scripture, do we trust God’s Word, or do we only hope or wish it to be true?

Be Alert

February 11, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

We don’t know when Jesus will return, but we know He will. As the days and years roll by, there is a temptation to grow complacent as we wait for Him to come and take us home. It becomes easy to believe that it won’t happen in our lifetime. But Jesus warned us to be alert because His coming could occur at any moment (Mark 13:35-37). In the same passage, He warns us not to be found sleeping.

be alert,commitment,mission,discipleship,God's Kingdom,Mark 13:35-37,no man knows the hour,Philippians 1:9-11,pure and blameless,Kingdom of God

We are to remain vigilant, always doing the work of the Kingdom. There is no time to relax, no excuse for laziness in serving Christ. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the return of Christ to catch me off-guard. This should affect every action we undertake and every decision we make.

Blind Spots

February 8, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

It’s easy to point fingers at the failures of others while ignoring our shortcomings. Jesus warned against this tendency by advising us to remove the log from our eye before commenting on the speck in the eye of our brother (Matthew 7:4-5). Sometimes, as we are refining our walk with Christ, we become blind to our less developed disciplines. It is common for us all to gravitate to certain portions of Scripture that resonate the most with us.

Too often though, we do so to the detriment of studying other parts and we develop blind spots. It’s a good practice to read some passages with which you don’t frequently engage to see what you might be missing and identify any blind spots you may have. I don’t get through many mornings reading Scripture without being convicted of something.
