Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Your Perspective

June 7, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

There’s an old saying that goes, “Perception is reality.” I’m uncertain that is unequivocally true, but I know your perspective will define your reality. If we look at life through the lens of the media and the culture, we will see the world the way they paint it for us. But if we look at the world through God’s eyes, we will see it as He created it to be. We will see a beauty that is no longer visible to the naked eye.

Besides the beauty, we will also see the peace of God. I guarantee you won’t find either of those things on social media or the 24×7 news cycle. We need to lift our focus above the lies, the noise, and the fear. Instead, we need to focus on Jesus and build out our perspective from there.

Hurried

June 3, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

We will not run into Satan face to face most days. We meet him in far more subtle ways. In his book, “The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry”, John Mark Comer describes our encounters with Satan this way: “Today, you’re far more likely to run into the enemy in the form of an alert on your phone while you’re reading your Bible or a multi-day Netflix binge or a full-on dopamine addiction to Instagram or a Saturday morning at the office or another soccer game on a Sunday or commitment after commitment after commitment in a life of speed.”

We are so busy, so hurried, that Jesus is being systematically squeezed out of our lives. And the enemy loves it. He barely needs to lift a finger anymore. Once he got the ball rolling, we did the rest. We’ve made his job ridiculously easy. “The devil made me do it” no longer holds water because we are wholly complicit.

The Most Important Thing

May 31, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

When the most important thing isn’t your most important thing, then you haven’t got a thing. That’s the convoluted but pertinent thought that came into my mind as I was contemplating what to do next on a recent day. The reality is God is everything to us or He is nothing at all. There is no part-time God. There is only one God, and He demands our full attention and our full devotion.

In return, we get all of Him. It’s a no-lose proposition. And yet every day we live our lives as if we don’t want the deal. We want God sometimes, but living our lives in complete devotion means surrendering too much of our selfish desires. We don’t want to let go, even though we know what we are getting in return is so much better.

The Persecuted

May 27, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

For many in the West, it is uncomfortable to talk about the persecuted Church around the world. While we may face ridicule and discrimination to one degree or another, we have no reference point for the brutality inflicted against our brothers and sisters in far-off countries. Much like the television commercials depicting starving children or animal shelters, the images are hard to look at so we close our eyes, mute the sound, or change the channel.

We know these things exist but we would rather not think about them. But our discomfort does not change the reality of what is happening to our brothers and sisters. Imagine if it was your flesh and blood sibling who was enduring such things. Would you not keep them in the front of your mind and do everything in your power to help and encourage them? Then why are we so reluctant to discuss and bring attention to the plight of our brothers and sisters in Christ?

Opposition

May 24, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Opposition means nothing to a person determined to follow God. If you set your mind on loving, living, and looking like Jesus, you will desire to do His will. Nothing else will matter, only Jesus. When you surrender to Christ, your desires will change. Your life will no longer be about yourself. It will be about God and others. But a life like this is only if you want it, and make no mistake, it will cost you.

The devil sees your surrender to Christ as an open invitation to attack. You will find opposition at every turn. it’s probably time to check the level of your commitment to Christ if you aren’t facing opposition in your life. Jesus promised us we would have trouble in this world (John 16:33). If you aren’t experiencing it now, know that it is coming.
