Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Open Your Bible

March 16, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

How often do you open your Bible? The only correct answer to this question is “not often enough.” I know this because, like me, if you opened it often enough, your life would not resemble what it looks like today. The Word of God is unstoppable, inexhaustible, and transforms us to the core of our beings. (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16–17) I can say with confidence that you don’t love the Bible enough.

For that matter, you don’t love God enough. I don’t either, and it disgusts me. If you desire to follow Christ with all of your heart, soul, strength, and mind (Luke 10:27; Deuteronomy 6:5), let me ask you the same question I ask myself: where’s the proof? Can you say with a straight face and complete honesty that you are walking just as Jesus walked? (1 John 2:6)

What’s Your Excuse?

July 21, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Never in history has there been less of an excuse to know God’s Word and fill your mind with sound teaching and doctrine. Television, radio, books, magazines, and, of course, the internet provide endless hours of teaching that no single person could ever exhaust in a lifetime. So, if you are not growing daily in the Lord, I have to ask, what’s your excuse?

The only thing keeping anyone from growing deeper in their faith is their choosing not to. We all choose how we will spend our time, and if you aren’t choosing God or His Word, what are you choosing? Will you be comfortable with your answer when you stand before the judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10)?

Too Tired

October 21, 2024 by Tim Sherfy

Do you find yourself too tired to pray or read God’s Word? These days, I think most of us are too tired to do almost anything! The dizzying pace of the world and the constant onslaught of information feel like they are eating our souls. Our hurried and frenetic pace of life is, without a doubt, a tool of Satan (1 Peter 5:8). The more tired he can cause us to be, the less effective we will be for the Kingdom of God.

With so much to do and so little time available to do it all, we must be diligent in monitoring our priorities (Matthew 6:33). It’s so easy to let the important matters slip in favor of the simpler or more pleasurable tasks (Luke 10:41-42).

What Can You Do?

August 19, 2024 by Tim Sherfy

What can you do about the increasing evil that is penetrating every corner of our world? To be realistic and blunt, not much. The fall of this world was a foregone certainty before the Lord spoke the first word to create it all (Isaiah 46:9-10). None of what is transpiring is surprising to God. Every bit is part of His mysterious but sovereign plan (Ephesians 1:11-12). I don’t get it.

This isn’t in any way how I would write this grand story. Then again, I am so obviously not God. My “perfect plan” would fall apart within seconds. No, that’s too long; it would immediately fail because I am not omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, or omnibenevolent. It’s not all bad news though. While we can’t stem the tide of evil flooding our world, there is something we can do.

Read the Book

April 29, 2024 by Tim Sherfy

I’ve written nearly a million words (true story!) since this blog began back in 2010. Today, as I sat down to write the next instalment, it occurred to me that for all that writing, the only value I can add to anyone is pointing to what is written in the Word of God. No matter how clever the phrase or profound the thought, it is utterly meaningless because all truth is found in the Word of God (John 17:17).

There is no wisdom apart from knowing Christ (Job 28:28; Colossians 2:3). Nothing I write will ever save your soul. Only the power of God’s Word can do that (Romans 1:16). So, as much as I genuinely appreciate you reading my work, if it’s a choice between reading this and spending some time in God’s Word, then I implore you to put this down and pick up your Bible.
