Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Who Do You Say He Is?

July 7, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

When Jesus walked the earth as a man, almost all the people of His day had an opinion about who He was. Rumors swirled about a man who was becoming both more popular and controversial. Two sides formed, one believing He was from God and the other from the pits of Hell (John 7:12; Matthew 9:34). Within the two camps were many more divisions.

King Herod believed Jesus was John the Baptist back from the dead. He fell into the camp of those who believed Jesus was a man of God, but stopped well short of believing Jesus was the Messiah. At least Herod had an answer when anyone asked about Jesus, “Who do you say He is?” But to his eternal damnation, his answer fell short.

He Is Able to Fill All Our Needs

July 3, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

The gospels of Matthew and Mark both record two separate instances of Jesus feeding multitudes of people. Some skeptics like to argue these were retellings of the same miracle, but the setting and details of each are so different that their argument is without merit and not worthy of further discussion. It is no surprise Jesus performed a similar miracle more than once, because He often repeated miracles such as restoring sight to the blind (Matthew 9:27-30; Mark 8:22-25),

cleansing lepers (Luke 17:12-14; Matthew 8:2-3), healing the paralyzed (Matthew 9:1-7; John 5:5-9), and even raising the dead (Luke 7:11-15; John 11:43-44). We are confident in God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16), and thus we can be confident that Jesus fed vast multitudes at least twice during His ministry. Then, as now, Jesus wants us to see that no matter how impossible the challenge, He is able to fill all our needs.

It’s All True

June 23, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

A recent survey of American evangelical pastors revealed 20% don’t believe in a literal Adam and Eve. That means 1 out of every 5 pastors does not believe God’s Word is authoritative. Even stranger, 16% did not believe in miracles and 1% did not believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ. What this shows us is that mainline evangelical pastors think some of the Bible is true, but not all of it.

It means one out of every five pastors thinks they can tell which parts of Scripture are true and which aren’t (spoiler: it’s all true!). With what wisdom do they make this determination? With the fallible wisdom of man instead of the infallible wisdom of God, of course (1 Corinthians 1:20–25)!

Quiet Humility

June 19, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

It’s the slow, steady rhythms that will lead us to look more like Christ. So many want to do “big things for God,” yet they’ve never mastered the small disciplines the Lord desires most. We learn about so-called “celebrity Christians” crashing and burning with alarming regularity. In a previous post, I posited the question pondering if there should even be such a thing as “celebrity Christians.”

I am convinced the answer is an unequivocal and emphatic “NO!” It seems everyone wants a platform or to be an influencer these days. I understand why those with a secular worldview would desire such things, but it baffles me why Christians would seek these things as well. Whatever happened to living lives of quiet humility (1 Thessalonians 4:9–12)?

What Keeps You from Being an Effective Christian?

June 16, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

What keeps you from being an effective Christian? It’s a question we all ask ourselves at some point in our walk. We want to be more consistent, more bold, and more useful to God in His Kingdom. No one surrenders to the Lordship of Christ and then endeavors to live out their days in mediocrity.

But mediocrity is where so many believers, once full of fire and zeal for the gospel, live their lives. Why is that? What gets in the way of living a life worthy of our calling as disciples of Jesus (Ephesians 4:1)? If we can identify the problems, it can help us be alert to the tactics of the enemy and not fall for His tricks over and over again (2 Corinthians 2:11).
