Dead to Sin

Can a Christian sin? If you are a believer in Christ, you know the answer to this is a resounding and unfortunate “yes.” Yet Paul asks a convicting question in Romans 6:2: “How can we who died to sin still live in it?” Is Paul saying once God saves us, we will no longer sin? After all, if we are dead to sin, how can we then live in it?

Paul can’t be saying Christians never sin because one chapter later, he is lamenting, “For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate” (Romans 7:15). If sin could still hamper a man like Paul, how much more will we still fall prey to sin?

Are you content with who you are and what you have? We live in a world that seems intent on keeping us from being content. You don’t have to spend much time on social media before you come across someone living the life you want to live. It doesn’t help that we understand much of what we see is a lie. Everything is staged for maximum impact,

content,happy,joy,love,commitment,discipleship,covet,humility,lying,Ten Commandments,catechism

but we still want what is being put on display. If we would step back for a moment and reorient ourselves to reality, we’d realize we’re seeing an industry built on breaking the ninth and tenth commandments of God. People are lying about their own lives to make others desire what they have.

All We Need

Jesus is all we need. If we have Jesus, nothing else matters. Everything we work for in this life is going to go away. Nothing lasts except the eternal grace and love of Christ. The moment we try to find peace, joy, and rest anywhere other than Jesus is the moment we will become frustrated and angry.

The world can and does offer a plethora of attractive options in which we can imbibe, but only Jesus satisfies. If you have Jesus, everything you need and desire is already within you. It’s time we stopped looking outside to find contentment and begin focusing on the Savior within our hearts.

Love for Others

As followers of Christ, love for others should permeate all we do. Jesus said the greatest commandment was to love God, and the second greatest was to love others as ourselves (Mark 12:28-31). He even took it up a notch when He said the greatest demonstration of love was to lay down your life for another (John 15:12-13). Of course, Jesus would go on to model such love in His sacrificial death for our sins.

Love for others is the central tenet of Christianity. It is the linchpin and the differentiator. Self-sacrificial love begins with surrendering ourselves to Jesus and manifests as we pour out our lives in service to others to the glory of God. You cannot love God and treat others poorly or unfairly. If we love God, we will love others in kind.

I Need Jesus

There’s not a day that goes by without the realization that I need Jesus. The older I get, the more obvious it becomes. How anyone gets through life without Christ is a mystery to me. Where is their source of hope? What is their anchor in the storms of life? I cannot comprehend how anyone deals with the tragedies and disappointments of life without Jesus.

I need Jesus,commitment,fear,peace,truth,salvation

If you know Jesus, I’m certain you find this to be true in your life as well. There simply is no life without Christ. No matter how good you think your life is, it can never be as good as the worst day with Jesus in your life. The reason is the love of Jesus is everlasting. It will never fade like all the pleasures in this world do.
