Moving Beyond Faith

Once you have made the decision to follow Christ, what’s next? How do we go about doing life the day after we have given ourselves to Him? Those who truly love Him want so much more than a “get out of Hell free” pass. We want to live in a manner that glorifies Him and sets us apart. But where do we start and how to we continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus?

Fortunately, God did not leave us to figure this out on our own. To help guide us, He places His Spirit within each of us who put their faith in Him. He also gave us the instructions of His Word in scripture. His plan for our maturity can be found in 2 Peter 1:5-8. It’s a roadmap for how we should live our life.

Why Do You Follow Jesus?

People choose to follow Jesus for many reasons. Many follow Him in an effort to reach Heaven and, by default, escape the fiery depths of Hell. Others follow Him because they see Him as a wise and moral teacher.

Role Reversal

When the faces of hungry children live half a planet away, it is easy to forget them. When our schedules are tight and we are running late, it is a simple matter to look the other way when we see a homeless person with an outstretched hand. Rationalizations for not lending a hand to help are easy to come by when our lives are already stressed out and booked solid.

In theory, we know we should be helping those who are in need, the people who are less fortunate than ourselves. In practice, most of us struggle to carry on the mission of Christ. What is your response when you see images of starving children on TV? Do you turn the channel in search of more entertaining fare, or do you linger and watch the unimaginable images on the screen? Are you moved to take action or do you make excuses and expect someone else to help?

Your Life’s Mission

Why are we here? What is God’s will for me? What should I do with my life? We’ve all asked some form of this question repeatedly throughout our lives. It wasn’t always this way in the church. There was a time when people knew exactly why they were here and what they were supposed to be doing with their time on the planet.
