Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Be Thankful

November 23, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

While we should be thankful every day for the incredible blessings God has given to us, Americans set aside one day a year to express our gratitude as a nation. I recognize not everyone feels thankful today. Illness, job loss, personal tragedy, and general dissatisfaction with life can darken our minds and keep us from recognizing how much we have to be thankful for.

Wherever you are, simply looking around you reveals much for which you can be thankful. I don’t know your circumstances, but I’ve never met anyone who couldn’t point to someone worse off than they were. So, that’s a start. If it could be worse, then there is something for which you can praise God.

In His Presence

November 20, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

We live our lives in a compartmentalized way. There are compartments holding our work stuff, personal stuff, and God stuff. We further break these compartments down into even smaller ones until we are juggling all these little boxes, unable to keep up and too tired to give any one of them our best effort. In the bustle and progress of modern society, we’ve lost the practice of spending time with God.

Because our attention is so fractured and fragmented, we never seem to have time for our King. Spending time in His presence is at best a dream and is more often than not forgotten entirely. Somewhere between our declaration of His Lordship and our present reality, we’ve lost our love and fascination with Jesus.

An Obsession with Jesus

November 16, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

I want to live having an obsession with Jesus. Every time I have a spare moment, I want to fill it with prayer, studying His Word, memorizing scripture, or telling someone about the love, mercy, and grace of Christ. We all live with an obsession for something, so why not have an obsession with Jesus? Deep down, we all have those activities and desires that are constantly calling to us.

After a long day at work, what is that thing you want to do when you can unplug from your responsibilities and commitments? That thing is probably your obsession, what you would devote your time to if only you could. For most of us, that thing is not Jesus, and for those of us who declare Him Lord, that fact should shame us.

Die to Self

November 13, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

We don’t live surrendered lives because to do so is both inconvenient and difficult. Everything in our society and culture is designed to appeal to our worldly lusts and flesh. The culture calls us to surrender to its ways, enjoy the best of this life, and cast aside any restrictions on our pleasure and enjoyment.

Every part of our flesh desires to chase after the things of this world. So, when we surrender to Jesus as our Lord, an immediate conflict ensues. Will we bow to the King or give our allegiance to the dark desires of our flesh?

Feel the Weight

November 9, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Perhaps nothing keeps us from experiencing the power of God in our lives more than our failure to recognize the horror of sin. We all know we should avoid sin, but too often we fail to feel the weight of that sin. Everyone sins and so it becomes easy to excuse it. We rationalize we can’t help our sinful nature, and since no one is perfect except Jesus, sinning is inevitable.

To believe such a thing both cheapens and diminishes what Christ accomplished on the cross. His death not only provides forgiveness for our sins, but His resurrection dismantled the schemes and workings of the devil. We are born in sin, but thanks to Jesus’s victory over sin and death, we don’t have to live as slaves to sin.
