Don’t Forget to Pray

Don’t forget to pray for our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are suffering for the cause of Christ. Isn’t it a little crazy and even a little to our shame that we need to be reminded to do something so basic yet powerful? Why is prayer so neglected in the lives of most Christians? Having an open channel to the throne of God would seem to be enough to keep us forever on our proverbial knees (Hebrews 4:16).

Where else will we learn so much about our Creator? What other activity is so nourishing to our minds and souls? And yet prayer is often only remembered when we find ourselves in need. James writes, “The intense prayer of the righteous is very powerful” (James 5:16). Why are we so reluctant to tap into such power?

God’s Call to Holiness

God’s call to holiness is not optional for any believer. Holiness is the standard God set for us in the beginning and continues to expect from us (Leviticus 19:2; 1 Peter 1:15–16). When we love the Father, we will desire to do what pleases Him because we all want to be counted like Paul when we die (2 Timothy 4:7).

We all want to run the race well and hear Jesus speak the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant; enter into my rest” (Matthew 25:21). We dare not approach Heaven with stained garments uncleansed by the sacrificial blood of Christ (Hebrews 10:10). Sanctification always follows true repentance, so if we aren’t concerned with holiness, it is hard to conceive of our repentance as genuine.

What’s Your Excuse?

Never in history has there been less of an excuse to know God’s Word and fill your mind with sound teaching and doctrine. Television, radio, books, magazines, and, of course, the internet provide endless hours of teaching that no single person could ever exhaust in a lifetime. So, if you are not growing daily in the Lord, I have to ask, what’s your excuse?

The only thing keeping anyone from growing deeper in their faith is their choosing not to. We all choose how we will spend our time, and if you aren’t choosing God or His Word, what are you choosing? Will you be comfortable with your answer when you stand before the judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:10)?

What Keeps You from Being an Effective Christian?

What keeps you from being an effective Christian? It’s a question we all ask ourselves at some point in our walk. We want to be more consistent, more bold, and more useful to God in His Kingdom. No one surrenders to the Lordship of Christ and then endeavors to live out their days in mediocrity.

But mediocrity is where so many believers, once full of fire and zeal for the gospel, live their lives. Why is that? What gets in the way of living a life worthy of our calling as disciples of Jesus (Ephesians 4:1)? If we can identify the problems, it can help us be alert to the tactics of the enemy and not fall for His tricks over and over again (2 Corinthians 2:11).

Seizing the Moment

Are we as the Church seizing the moment before us? As I survey all the evil, mental issues, and despair in the world, I have to wonder if we are shining the light we have into such a dark and desperate place. Too many Christians are content with being in the club and see no reason to shake things up or draw attention to themselves. Christianity is not a social club, it’s a war zone.

Our Sunday gatherings should be a respite from the battlefront where we recharge and gain more tooling to fight the battles we will encounter the moment we walk out those doors. I don’t know about you, but that’s not what I see. What I see are megaplexes with circus sideshows built for entertainment of the masses. I see leaders more concerned with appearing relevant than rescuing souls from the clutches of Hell.
