Finding Hope in Times of Persecution

June 1, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

During times of trial and persecution, finding hope can be elusive. You trust God and desire to persevere, but discouragement is bound to set in. When these times come, never forget God is able to restore all things. His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9). Throughout the Word of God, we see the Lord’s care and provision for those who claim Him as their King.

Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” This is the same God, the unchanging God, who is with you no matter what you might be experiencing. He is your strength, and He is your hope.

Hope in the Darkness

April 20, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

I love Psalm 37. It’s like a mini guidebook for how to live. The psalm is full of wisdom and encouragement and worthy of being read daily. Recognizing how relevant God’s Word remains today always makes me smile. We need no other proof of the divine nature of the Bible than to see how prescient and applicable the words written thousands of years ago are today. Right out of the gate, it appears King David, the author of the Psalm, is speaking directly into our world.

He writes, “Do not be agitated by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong. For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender green plants.” (Psalm 37:1-2). Our world is full of evil people, but it is an encouragement to know their plans will not last forever. God will hold them accountable for what they do. There is hope in the darkness.

The Truth

April 13, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

That Jesus bodily rose from the dead is not in doubt. Sure, some reject this truth, but there will always be those who deny the truth because the truth infringes on their ability to live in any way they please. In his first epistle, the apostle John writes about Jesus, “What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have observed and have touched with our hands, concerning the Word of life. . .” (1 John1:1).

John knew Jesus before and after His death. He referred to himself as “the one Jesus loved” (John 13:23), not a title one would reward oneself with for being a passing acquaintance. After Christ had risen from the tomb, John declares he and others saw Him, watched Him move around, and physically touched Him. There was no denying it, Jesus was alive again.

Risen Indeed

April 10, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus Christ has risen! He has risen indeed! The resurrection of Jesus is the defining moment in all of history. It is the pivotal event that divides our dating system. No event has ever made a greater impact on the world, and no event brings more joy to the hearts of those who trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

While Good Friday is a somber and reflective day, Easter is full of hope and celebration. But the celebration of Easter must not end when Monday morning arrives. He rose on Sunday, but on Monday we must remember He has still risen indeed. Our life has hope, meaning, and purpose only because the tomb remains empty today.

Whole World

November 7, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

Life is a little crazy these days. Hatred and division are everywhere you look. It’s easy to lose a little hope, and perspective is hard to keep. Trusted voices have turned out to be frauds and storied industries and franchises are falling by the wayside. The church is seeing the results of too many years of allowing the foxes to roam the henhouse. How can we stop the madness and get things back to some state of normalcy?

In times like these, we must remember God is still in control. That’s not some cliché statement left over from an old Sunday School lesson. Psalm 24:1-2 says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” He has the whole world in His hands.
