Finding God’s Will

February 14, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

god's will for my life,what is God's will,knowing God's will,God's will

Many Christians are consumed with a desire to find God’s will for their lives. They spend their time reading books, taking assessment tests, and attending seminars that all promise to reveal these secrets to them. It seems everyone wants clear guidance on what God’s will is for their lives, yet so many are frustrated because they can never quite seem to find it. Jim Rohn used to say that anything we pursue will eludes us. Finding God’s will is not something we pursue; it is something we become as we surrender our lives to Him.

It’s All about Love

February 7, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Love,love does,God is love,love one another,love your neighbor,what is love,love wins

Everything we do for Christ, every one of His commands, comes back to a single word: love. Whether it’s seeking to bring justice to the oppressed or set victims of human trafficking free (Isaiah 58:6), we do this out of love. When we feed the hungry or provide clean water to villages that previously had no access to it (Matthew 25:35), we demonstrate God’s love. Using our time and resources to care for the single mothers or homeless people (James 1:27) demonstrates our love for them. Love is the key to every ill of our society. It is the salve for every wound and conflict. Love is the only answer, and it looks exactly like Jesus.

Living like Jesus

January 7, 2013 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is Lord,Lord of your life,Jesus first,Francis Chan,compassion,active faith,faith without works,homeless

I recently read of an individual who decided to move outside his comfort zone to live a life that looks like Jesus. Josh is 20 years old and had befriended an elderly homeless woman. One night she got beat up pretty badly, and Josh offered to take her to a friend’s house where she could stay for awhile. The woman wasn’t comfortable leaving her usual surroundings. So what did Josh do? He didn’t walk away thinking he had done what he could. He didn’t berate her for not accepting help. No, he decided to start sleeping on the street next to her to provide protection. What a beautiful picture of Jesus! Josh went to where the hurting person was rather than wait for them to come to him.

The Birth of Jesus

December 24, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

the meaning of Christmas, virgin birth,God with us,savior of the world, easter

What if Jesus had never been born? What if He had not come to walk among us? It’s Christmas Eve and tomorrow we celebrate the birth of our Savior a couple thousand years ago. How would your life be different today if you had never come to know Jesus? I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I’d be alive. There have been times in my life that if it weren’t for Jesus, I don’t think I would have made it through. I have often remarked that I don’t understand how people cope without Christ. To whom do they turn when everyone has failed them and everything has fallen apart? How do people without Jesus ever experience true peace? God created us for a purpose, and the only way to discover that purpose is through the person of Jesus Christ.

Where was God in Newtown?

December 17, 2012 by Tim Sherfy

sandy hook, freewill, open theism, newtown, tragedy, forgiveness, love,God and evil, why does god allow evil, why do bad things happen to good people, newton ct

Whenever there is a tragedy such as the horrific killings in Newtown, Connecticut, people want to know how a good and loving God could allow such inexplicable violence. How can God truly be worth serving if He allows murder, rape, kidnapping, depravity and abject evil to exist in our world? Is He not powerful enough to put an end to it? Is He even in control at all? These are fair questions that come out of unimaginable grief and trauma. I think it is okay and even healthy to ask these questions. But people want to do more than question God, they demand an answer. It’s here that I think too many Christians are missing the mark.
