Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

No Neutral Position

July 18, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

In a world of compromise and so-called “tolerance”, we must remember there is no neutral position in Christ. We are for Him or against Him (Mark 9:40; John 3:36), and we can never stand in a middle that does not exist. Today’s culture regards those who accept whatever is popular as the favored class. Those of us who push back against the tide of perversion, selfishness, and immorality are branded as outcasts and even criminals.

Light has no fellowship with darkness (II Corinthians 6: 14; Ephesians 5:11), so we must abstain from drinking from the fountain of popular thought. The temptation to go with the flow is great, but if you are truly for Christ, you must stand firm on His Word and obey His commands.

Don’t Be True to Yourself

July 4, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

For most of my life, I’ve heard people say we should be authentic and be our true selves. This sounds like good advice, but it’s the worst advice a follower of Jesus could ever follow. To be true to yourself stands in stark contrast to how we are called to live. It is prideful, putting our feelings and preferences ahead of God’s. The advice isn’t far removed from the way the serpent tempted Eve.

He convinced her there was a better way than the one prescribed by God. The devil deceived Eve into believing she could be more than she was. It was the desire to be something more, something she believed to be truer to who she was that she shared with Adam. The rest is the unfortunate history of the fall of man and the source of all our problems today.

Your Salvation is Ongoing

May 26, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

We do a great disservice to ourselves if we consider our salvation in Christ to be something that occurred in a single moment of time. There is, of course, the moment when you accepted Christ and committed your life to Him, but salvation doesn’t begin or end there. Your salvation has a past. Before you ever heard about Christ, He had already done the work necessary for your salvation on the cross.

Once you accepted the Lord’s offer of salvation, you spend the rest of your life working out that salvation in the present (see Philippians 2:12-13). Finally, our salvation is secured in the future when we meet Christ and are glorified in Him and with Him. Your salvation is ongoing, and we must never become lazy thinking we prayed a prayer and that’s all there is to it.

To Live is Christ

April 25, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

In his letter to the church in Philippi, Paul wrote that for him, “to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). A life devoted to Christ means death is irrelevant and even better than life. If we spend our lives in devotion to Christ, we fulfill our purpose by glorifying our Lord and Creator. And if we die, we get to meet Him face to face, spending eternity in His glorious presence.

This is a no-lose proposition. We serve and glorify Him in life, and we serve and glorify Him in death. There is no better deal anyone could ever offer you. Nothing else you could spend your life on offers the same consistency and reward.

Why Do You Follow Christ?

April 21, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

I read an article written by Costi Hinn in a recent “Answers” magazine. In it, he posed three questions, one after the other, that stuck with me. He wrote, “Is the gospel about the gifts or the giver? Is the gospel about earthly riches or eternal life? Is the gospel about monetary gain or the glory of God?” These are poignant questions, particularly in the Western context in which so many of us live.

We claim to love Jesus, but do we love Him because of who He is or because of what we perceive He can give us? Why do you follow Christ? Jesus is God. He is holy, and the epitome of love. His very nature demands we love and worship Him simply for who He is. And yet, many see Jesus as only a means to get what they want. This is not Biblical Christianity, and it certainly is not the gospel.
