Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Philippians

Discernment

October 4, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

Philippians 1:9-11 tells us we should never stop growing in love and discernment. The passage goes on to tell us this is important so we can approve the good things and stay away from the bad. The goal of which is to be blameless when Christ returns. All of us want to be blameless before Christ, and none of us want to be caught unaware when He returns.

If you should fear anything in life, fear what Christ’s return will find you doing. Now, if we live our lives wholly devoted to Him, we won’t have to worry about it. If we let compromise come into our lives, who knows what Jesus may find us doing. We only get one shot to do this right.

You Can’t Compartmentalize Jesus

September 13, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

What information are you consuming? You will become whatever you consume. What goes into your mind and your body will manifest in the way you think and look. It will determine what you say and do. If you want to look like Jesus, you must consume His Word. You must feed on Him and nothing else. We will look like Jesus when our every moment is obsessed with Him. We do this by inviting Him into everything we do.

The mistake Christians have made for far too long is trying to compartmentalize Jesus. We have our careers, our social life, our friends, and our activities. Oh, and we also love Jesus. This is not a biblical lifestyle, and it won’t result in us looking like Jesus.

Peace In Prayer

August 2, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

I don’t know about you, but sometimes, in the midst of praying, I can get a bit discouraged. It seems there is no end to the dire prayer requests popping up on my phone and in my email. I can’t say for certain whether things are worse than they have ever been, but I can say we are more aware of the problems Christians are facing than at any other time in history.

It can be overwhelming until we remember to Whom it is we are praying. God is not overwhelmed. He is not caught off-guard by what is going on in the world. Best of all, He remains the answer to all the problems and heartaches. The world may change, but our God never does.

Surrender to God

June 17, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

God is not calling us to impurity (I Thessalonians 4:7). Nor is He calling us to be fearful (II Timothy 1:7). Why then do we spend so much of our time pursuing sinful things and living in fear? Is it we do not understand our calling or do we just not care? I’m not convinced there is a third option, and neither of the choices is good! This thought alone should drive us to our knees.

If we are not living for Jesus, for what then are we living? Perhaps a better way to ask this is if Christ isn’t worthy of our lives, who or what is? Why are we not living our lives running away from sin and full of courage? Both are possible if we would only surrender to God.

Let Us Pray

April 12, 2021 by Tim Sherfy

I am convicted we who are followers of Jesus are not spending enough time in prayer. We wring our hands about the state of the world and continued attacks on Christianity while neglecting to do the one thing we can do to change it all: pray. Too many of our prayers have become rote and boring. We pray before our meals, before shutting down at night, and perhaps even first thing in the morning.

But how many of those prayers are for other people, our country, our leaders, persecuted brothers and sisters, or for the lost around the globe? Our prayers are too selfish, too mechanical, and too safe. We need to open our hearts and pour out our cries before the Lord. Let us pray prayers that will move the heart of God rather than bring us more comfort and success.
