Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Without Exception

September 25, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

In a recent sermon, my pastor stated, “If you have any exceptions in your obedience, you are not a Christian.” It’s a bold statement that might cause you to form an immediate objection. After all, who are we to say who is or isn’t a true Christian? Once you get past the initial shock of the bluntness of the statement, you will see that it is in line with God’s Word.

Man pondering what it means to obey Christ without exception, and to order his priorities to reflect his commitment and desire to live in discipleship to Christ.

The problem is we skim over the parts of the Bible that are too convicting or too hard to follow. My pastor’s words are not a new teaching or even controversial when held up to the light of scripture. What we are reacting to is the fact that obeying God’s Word without exception is not something most are willing to do.

Guard Your Mind

September 22, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

In an age of endless distractions, it’s never been more vital to guard your mind. What you allow into your mind affects how you feel, act, and live. I am convinced there are no neutral thoughts. At their core, every thought will either glorify God or ourselves. Over 2,000 years ago, Paul exhorted the Church to take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

Woman scrolling through her phone emphasizing the need to guard your mind, exert discipline to to show your commitment to the holiness of God by minding our thoughts, keeping our focus on God and avoiding social media.

Infiltrating our minds is the primary way Satan wages war against us (Ephesians 6:11-12). The goal of the devil is to implant thoughts in our heads to make us doubt what God has said (Genesis 3:1), question who we are in Christ (Matthew 4:3-4), and erode our faith in Jesus (Luke 22:31-32). Every lie we’ve ever believed is another attack from the devil and his demons (John 8:44).

He Knows You Know

September 18, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

If you are going to start your day without Jesus, then why bother starting it at all? If Jesus isn’t everything to you, then He is nothing to you, and there is no point in pretending otherwise. Your half-hearted devotion does not fool God, nor does your lip-service faith impress Him. He knows the truth about your commitment to Him, and deep down, so do you.

Man walking along considering his commitment to Christ and whether he will surrender his heart to th Lordship of Jesus resulting in his salvation, because he knows you.

Jesus says, “On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?’ Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’” (Matthew 7:22-23). He knows you know how deep your commitment to Him is. What’s the use of keeping up this charade?

Our Deepest Hunger

September 11, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Our deepest hunger and longing is for God. Those without God seek to fill the ache with anything but Him. You cannot survey the current cultural landscape without feeling immense sadness. So many lost souls seeking relief, in search of meaning, and desperate to determine what’s the point of it all. The world is offering countless bizarre treatments for every malady, but only Jesus is the answer.

Woman in prayer recognizing our deepest hunger is for the hope and salvation of Jesus so she prays to surrender her commitment to Christ.

He always has been and always will be. No matter what your question, Jesus is the answer (John 14:6). It may not be the answer you want, but it is the answer you need. To seek lasting comfort in anyone or anything else is nothing more than an exercise in futility.

Nothing and Nobody

September 4, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

You must determine to become nothing and nobody if you ever want to be the person God intends you to be. A slave of Christ can hold no possessions in this world (Luke 14:33). You might live in a house, drive a car, and even make use of a few niceties, but none of them are yours because they must all be meaningless to you. Nothing in this world compares to the greatest treasure of them all — the treasure of knowing and serving Jesus (Philippians 3:8).

A man showing humility praying with his hands open toward Chris, expressing his commitment to surrender to God's will in light of eternity.

We must give up everything to follow Him, and we do it with joy because there is nothing worth anything to us except for Jesus (Matthew 13:44-46). It is our duty to follow wherever He leads, and do whatever He commands (John 12:26). We are nothing because He is everything (Colossians 3:11).
