What Should We Say?

December 1, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

What should we say to people in conversation? There is no end to words (Ecclesiastes 6:11), and few seem hesitant to share their opinions on any matter. We all know at least a little about a vast range of topics. Very few know enough about a topic to speak with any authority on it at all, although most will proclaim authority despite their ignorance. That’s all of us, isn’t it?

We love to talk, and we long to be seen as an authoritative voice. It feeds our egos and bolsters our self-worth. That should be our first clue about the dangers of pontification. Anything that builds us up inside is pride in disguise. Since God creates each of us in His image, there is nothing any human could say or do to make us more honored or valuable than we already are.

Walking in God’s Will, Part 1

October 20, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

There is perhaps no greater confusion among Christians than in what it means to follow God’s will. Everyone wants to know God’s will for their lives, but so many seem to have no idea what that will is. I used to think this was an issue just for newer or less mature Christians, but over the years I’ve heard people who have been following Christ for years express the same questions about wondering what God’s will is for them in their situation.

No doubt you’ve heard the admonition to pray for God’s will, but people have a tendency to take that on a personal level as opposed to seeking God’s overarching will. I think this leads many to be confused. So, let’s look at what it means to live life walking in God’s will.

Speak Truth

October 9, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Why is it we humans are so good at lying? Okay, maybe we’re not all good at it, but we all do it. Perhaps we don’t think of it as lying, but I don’t think any are innocent of “stretching the truth”, “exaggerating the details”, or “fudging the numbers” at some point in our lives. Lying seems to be a human obsession. My hope is those who choose to recognize Jesus as Lord and accept His gift of new life will not be in the habit of lying.

As Christians, we must speak truth whenever we open our mouths. We do it because God commands it (Exodus 20:16) and because being truthful brings Him glory (Proverbs 12:22). God is not a man, and therefore He cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). If we are to be holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16), then truth is always the only option for us.

What Will Change?

September 15, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

The Bible is the greatest book ever written. Its truths are timeless, always relevant in any age or circumstance (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35). It has been my goal to model the writings here to honor God’s Word. I want to expound the truths of scripture in ways that will be as relevant today as they will be a hundred years from now. Because God’s truth is timeless, I seek to never tether that truth to a specific moment in time.

This proves difficult when momentous cultural events or tragedies occur. My heart desires to help bring the clarity and peace of God’s Word to bear to help people cope with difficult moments and keep our focus on God’s bigger and perfect plan. With that in mind, the question we all must ask ourselves in a potential seminal moment is, “What will change?”

Nothing and Nobody

September 4, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

You must determine to become nothing and nobody if you ever want to be the person God intends you to be. A slave of Christ can hold no possessions in this world (Luke 14:33). You might live in a house, drive a car, and even make use of a few niceties, but none of them are yours because they must all be meaningless to you. Nothing in this world compares to the greatest treasure of them all — the treasure of knowing and serving Jesus (Philippians 3:8).

We must give up everything to follow Him, and we do it with joy because there is nothing worth anything to us except for Jesus (Matthew 13:44-46). It is our duty to follow wherever He leads, and do whatever He commands (John 12:26). We are nothing because He is everything (Colossians 3:11).
