Complacency is one of the biggest threats to growing deeper in our relationship with Christ. Taking our eyes off Jesus for only a moment can reap disastrous and long-lasting results. Too often we treat our faith with a casualness that belies its eternal significance. Modern evangelicalism has so watered down the gospel to cater to our individual whims and desires that we think of Christianity as a lifestyle rather than the spiritual war it is.

Ask any soldier what happens if you get complacent in battle and they will assure you that you will wind up dead. If you want to live a life that honors Jesus, you must stay alert. This isn’t a game. It’s an ongoing battle for the destiny of your soul.

Walking in God’s Will, Part 4 – God’s Will Is Not a Secret

This is part four of our study of what it means to live life walking in God’s will. You can catch up or review by reading parts one, two, and three. If you are stumbling upon this for the first time, our premise is that God’s will is not a secret and that it is the same for each individual.

The point of this series is to provide some questions we can ask to help us eliminate the noise around our choices, and boil them down to the simple and plain teaching of scripture. What Will Change?

The Bible is the greatest book ever written. Its truths are timeless, always relevant in any age or circumstance (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35). It has been my goal to model the writings here to honor God’s Word. I want to expound the truths of scripture in ways that will be as relevant today as they will be a hundred years from now. Because God’s truth is timeless, I seek to never tether that truth to a specific moment in time.

This proves difficult when momentous cultural events or tragedies occur. My heart desires to help bring the clarity and peace of God’s Word to bear to help people cope with difficult moments and keep our focus on God’s bigger and perfect plan. With that in mind, the question we all must ask ourselves in a potential seminal moment is, “What will change?”

Our Deepest Hunger

Our deepest hunger and longing is for God. Those without God seek to fill the ache with anything but Him. You cannot survey the current cultural landscape without feeling immense sadness. So many lost souls seeking relief, in search of meaning, and desperate to determine what’s the point of it all. The world is offering countless bizarre treatments for every malady, but only Jesus is the answer.

He always has been and always will be. No matter what your question, Jesus is the answer (John 14:6). It may not be the answer you want, but it is the answer you need. To seek lasting comfort in anyone or anything else is nothing more than an exercise in futility.

Stand for Truth

As followers of Jesus, we must always stand for truth. We must embrace it, defend it, and campaign for it. Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). As imitators of Christ, we must exemplify Him as far as we are able in our humanness (Ephesians 5:1–2). One of the simplest ways we can do that is to stand for truth no matter what it costs us.

A man holds firmly to his Bible as he determines to stand for truth,displpaying commitment and discipline in his pursuit of discipleship.

We must never stand by and let a lie be told as truth. This is difficult in our culture today. As sin continues to grow ever more acceptable in society, we have no choice but to stand in opposition to the lies. Truth is no longer popular, but it has never been more necessary.
