Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Philippians

There Is Nothing to Fear

July 13, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

One of the most quoted verses in the Bible is Philippians 4:13, which says, “I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.” It’s a go-to verse whenever we are going through trials of any kind. People use it for comfort and encouragement, and it is that. But as Pastor Robert Sheehan writes, the verse “is meant to be a principle of living, not just a motto for special occasions!”

We should live every moment in the realization that there is no part of God’s will we cannot accomplish in His strength. No obstacle to His will is too great to overcome, and no challenge too daunting. Nothing can thwart the Lord’s will from being done (Job 42:2; Isaiah 46:10), and nothing can stop those who abide in Him from completing the work He gives them to do. (John 15:5; Philippians 1:6) There is nothing to fear.

Emulating His Death

July 9, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

We spend much of our lives trying to emulate the life of Christ, but perhaps we should be more concerned with emulating his death. God’s Word commands us to walk just as Jesus walked so long as we are on this earth. (1 John 2:6; Ephesians 5:1-2) That is how we should spend every day of our lives. But our life is but a mist, a blip on the timeline of history, and over before we know it.

What will we leave behind for the generations to come? J. C. Ryle wrote, “Christ’s vicarious death (not his life or miracles or teaching but his death) was to bring forth fruit to the praise of God and to provide redemption for a lost world.” Thus, He accomplished more in His death than He ever did in His days on earth.

The House Is on Fire!

June 29, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

Imagine waking in the middle of the night hearing someone shouting, “The house is on fire!” There are few things more frightening and gut-wrenching than that. Fire is ravenous and unflinching. It destroys everything in its path without care or prejudice. In a flash, a lifetime of work and savings is gone, and in the most tragic cases, people lose their lives.

I’ve never lived through a house fire and can only imagine the devastation one must feel the next morning. It’s one of those events, like tornadoes and hurricanes, that bring neighbors together regardless of how well they knew each other before. No one wishes such horror upon someone else.

Never Doubt the Power of Jesus

June 25, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

Never doubt the power of Jesus. Scripture is replete with descriptions of His authority and power. You would have to be a fool to deny it. But we’ve all proven our propensity for being fools time and again. For unbelievers, God’s power should cause feelings of terror such as they have never known. His wrath is beyond their greatest fear and most horrific imagination. It is indeed a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:31)

For those of us who are His, His power should be a constant comfort as we realize no problem is too big for Him to solve. (Jeremiah 32:17; Luke 1:37) No situation is too great for Him to rescue us from. The power of Christ is unlimited and unstoppable. (Psalm 115:3; Matthew 19:26)

The Beauty of the Gospel

June 22, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

Does the gospel still fascinate and overwhelm you? Do you still marvel at the outrageous generosity of God in selecting you to be one of the chosen few? (Ephesians 1:4-5; John 15:16) Or, as time has gone by, have you grown cold and indifferent to the beauty of the gospel? When we first awaken to the truth of God’s love and sacrifice, it’s almost impossible to keep it to ourselves.

We want to share the truth of Jesus with everyone we meet. But then comes the rejection and the ridicule. It seems not everyone is so excited to hear about Christ. Our love for Him does not fade, but many times our zeal does. (Revelation 2:4-5; Romans 12:11) Sharing Jesus becomes an afterthought and the gospel something we came to accept but no longer think about.
