Never Get This Moment Back

June 4, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

An obvious fact you come to embrace as you get older is that you will never get this moment back. We know it to be true on an intellectual level all our lives, but only the passing years allow it to come to relevance. This has profound implications not only in our physical lives but even more so in our spiritual growth.

Each moment is our one shot to maximize it for His glory. Every moment we decide to live for God or live for ourselves. His Word tells us we will have to give an account for every idle word and, by implication, every thoughtless moment. (Matthew 12:36; 2 Corinthians 5:10) We can’t live life on autopilot and expect to receive the reward of eternity with Christ.

Feel the Silence

June 1, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

We live in a noisy world. Have you noticed? Quiet is difficult to come by, and it’s getting scarcer every year. In earlier days, you’d have to go to a public gathering to hear someone speak or perform a concert. The radio brought these things first into our homes, then into our cars, and soon enough into our pockets. Television followed the same course.

Now, with the internet, we have an inexhaustible source of people speaking and performing available to us at any time. There’s a lot of good and enjoyable content out there. There’s even more that is dreadful. But good or bad, enjoyable or rage-inducing, in the end it’s all noise. At some point, we need to turn it all off and just feel the silence.

Jesus First

May 28, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

We who call ourselves Christians espouse putting Jesus first in our lives. It’s not that we are trying to be deceptive, but how true is that statement for most of us? When I was a younger boy, my father wore a pin on his suit jacket that said, “Jesus First.” I recall they were popular in church circles in the late 70s and early 80s.

I also remember being thrilled when my dad gave me a pin of my own. It became part of my Sunday wardrobe and even sometimes when I would go to school. Wearing something like that can make one more mindful of their conduct, but ultimately it does nothing to make it true in our lives. Only our actions can do that.

Remember

May 25, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

It’s good to take a break from the busyness always around us and remember the goodness of the Lord in our lives. (Psalm 103:2; Lamentations 3:22-23) His hand is always on us. Ours is a God powerful enough to keep the world spinning and hanging in thin air while making certain every molecule of life holds together and performs its function.

And yet He is still intimate enough to care about the smallest details in our lives. Think about that for a moment. We know it intellectually, but how often do we feel it in our hearts? Jesus Christ, who gave His life on a cross to save all humanity, is also interested in how your day is going. Who are we that He should take notice of us? (Psalm 8:3-4; 1 Peter 5:6-7)

Fear Death?

May 14, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

Do you fear death? Many Christians do, and it always makes me scratch my head. I’m not sure what would make a believer in Jesus fear meeting Him. I can’t wait to die. Perhaps that’s too morbid for many to read, but do you understand what is waiting for us on the other side? Why would anyone want to stay in this body a second longer than they have to?

Every good thing we experience in this life will be a thousand times better in Heaven, and every bad thing will cease to exist. (1 Corinthians 2:9; Revelation 21:4) It’s a deal unlike any other, and reaching our final destination at last should excite us all.
