In the Blink of an Eye

January 5, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Before we begin, let me state a couple of things this article is not. It is not a commentary on the Covid mRNA shot. Intelligent people can and should look at all the research and findings to make their own decision on that. You don’t need me, the media, celebrities, or the government to tell you what to think or believe about such things. It is also not in any way to express medical opinions which I am eminently not qualified to discuss.

What I do want to talk about is the alarming number of otherwise healthy people who are dying suddenly. For our discussion, the cause of their death is irrelevant. As followers of Jesus, what should concern us is how many people, in the blink of an eye, are finding themselves in eternal Hell.

Conformed or Transformed?

January 2, 2023 by Tim Sherfy

Are you being conformed or transformed? It’s a question I heard a preacher ask not too long ago. The question is both cutting and convicting and should lead to a healthy dose of self-reflection. If we give our lives to Jesus, the Holy Spirit will begin the work of transforming us into the image of Christ.

However, if we give ourselves over to the pursuits of pleasure, success, and happiness, the spirit of the age will be at work conforming us to the things of this world. Depending on our choices, our lives will reflect either the Holy God or the evil devil. Being transformed leads to eternal life, while being conformed leads to eternal damnation.

A Sense of Wonder

December 26, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

Another Christmas season is behind us, and now we must determine how the birth of Christ will change how we live for the next 365 days. Because that’s the point, isn’t it? Christmas isn’t about giving and receiving gifts from others. It’s about accepting the gift given to us by God. It’s the only gift that lasts, the only gift that truly satisfies you, and the only gift that brings eternal life along with it.

How many times during the past Christmas season did you stop to consider that? How often are you considering it now? We don’t live with a sense of wonder and awe, but we should. The gift of Jesus is unbelievable, undeserved, without a doubt, unappreciated.

Born to Die

December 22, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

The birth of Christ is indeed worthy of celebration. It marks the moment God stepped into history to make a way for the salvation of humanity. We rejoice and sing majestic carols to the King of Kings, and marvel at the miracle of His birth and the subsequent sinless life He led. But perhaps because of all the pageantry in our celebrations, we overlook that while the birth of Christ was glorious, the fact is Jesus was born to die.

His life on earth would last a scant thirty-three years. Three decades after marveling at His birth, His mother would mourn His death. Jesus came so we might live, but the only way to give us that life would cost Him His own.

Sin Has Consequences

December 1, 2022 by Tim Sherfy

While it seems obvious to say, sin has consequences. Everything we do against the holiness of God will subject us to punishment. Despite what many think, or what casual observation appears to reveal, no one can thumb their nose at God and get away with it. Our God is holy and sin cannot exist in His presence. It is only His patient love and goodness that prevents Him from incinerating this world right now.

There have been periods of great evil in the history of our world, and we are certainly living through a devastatingly wicked period right now. God is patient, but He will not remain so forever. Someday, perhaps very soon, the righteous anger of our holy God will be unleashed and destruction awaits all those who refuse to bow to Him as Lord.
