A Matter of Trust

May 5, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Most of us will worry about money at some point in our lives. You may be living that experience right now. Unexpected bills have a way of showing up at the worst possible moment, leaving us to wonder how we are ever going to pay them off. But when we look at scripture, we see a very different principle in play. Jesus tells us not to worry about money or any material needs (Matthew 6:25).

To the best of our knowledge, Jesus was unemployed during His ministry years, as were all His disciples. Not once do you read about them stressing over how they would pay their bills that month. The instructions of Jesus were for them to seek first His Kingdom, and He would provide all their needs (Matthew 6:33). It comes down to a matter of trust.

Final Destination

May 1, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Life presents no shortage of challenges. Physical injuries, mental health issues, and emotional distress can make the best of us wonder why we even bother to get up some days. The circumstances of life leave no doubt we live in a fallen world. For those of us who profess Jesus as Lord, there is a meaning to this madness.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and a purpose for our pain. It borders on the cliché to say, but this world is not our home (Hebrews 13:14). We are here for only a little while, and then we will at last find rest in our final destination. If we can hold on to that truth, we will see this life is more than worth the struggle.

One Moment of Distraction

April 28, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

There is never a moment when the purity of our commitment is not being tested. Every conversation we have, every activity we engage in, and every thought we entertain presents a choice: we can stand firm on the authority of God’s Word or allow Satan to encroach on our lives. None of us are above temptation or reproach, and every day is a battle for our heart and soul (James 1:14-15).

One little crack, one moment of distraction, can not only lose the battle but cost us the war. We must always be diligent to guard against any compromise (1 Peter 5:8-9; Proverbs 4:23). Never give the devil a foothold in your life (Ephesians 4:26-27). Give him an inch and he will take a mile. Give him a mile and your witness for Christ will be annihilated.

Bless the Lord

March 27, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

We live in a noisy world and there is no end to things clamoring for our attention (Ecclesiastes 1:8). It’s all too easy to become distracted and even caught up in the cares of this world (Mark 4:18-19). Of all the things we concern ourselves with, the one that is most important is what most often gets pushed aside. We consume our thoughts with our temporal and immediate circumstances instead of focusing our attention on the eternal glory of our God.

While we often pray for the Lord to bless us, how often do we bless the Lord? There is nothing worth having more than Jesus, and there is no problem beyond His ability to solve (Jeremiah 32:17). The Lord is the only One worthy of our praise, and the only object deserving of our attention (Revelation 4:11).

Get Ready

March 10, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

Jesus is coming back and we better get ready. Scripture makes it clear that His coming will be unexpected (Matthew 24:36). It’s going to shock everyone because we aren’t living our lives in eager anticipation of His return (1 Thessalonians 5:2-6). Since you got out of bed this morning, how many times have you thought about the fact that this could be it? You might see Jesus in the very next minute!

Most days, we would have to answer that we have given little thought to it at all. Sure, on an intellectual level we recognize the possibility He could come back today, but that’s a far cry from eagerly anticipating it (Philippians 3:19-21)! Why are we not more excited about the coming of our salvation? Is it because we’ve become enamored with this world?
