Even If i Walk Alone

Instructing and encouraging you to live your life as a disciple of Jesus

Urgency and Mission

February 19, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

A mantra is a repeated word or phrase that exemplifies your beliefs or goals. It’s a device to keep you on track and to remind yourself of what is most important. Do you have a mantra for your life? If not, how about “urgency and mission”? Mission because the Lord has entrusted you to carry on His work, to be His hands and feet in sharing the gospel to the ends of the earth. (Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 1:8) Urgency because we know the time is short. (Romans 13:11–12)

These truths should be at the forefront of the mind of every Christian and the driving force of each of our days. (Colossians 3:2) To our shame, these are not the hallmarks of most of our lives. Since they aren’t, we must ask, are we serious about our commitment to follow Jesus? (Luke 9:62)

What Is God Calling You to Do?

February 16, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

What is God calling you to do? Are you doing it? A recurring theme for most Christians is trying to figure out God’s will for their lives. We’ve talked about this before (see “Explaining God’s Will for Your Life” and “Walking in God’s Will”) and yet we never seem to get it straight in our head. God’s will is easy to find. The Lord has put it in plain sight for you to find, right in the pages of Scripture (Micah 6:8).

Sometimes I think we like to pretend it’s a mystery so we don’t have to feel obligated to carry out the work He gives us to do (James 1:22). What God is calling you to do is no doubt far less glamorous than you would prefer or imagine (Luke 9:23). But this isn’t about you, is it (1 Corinthians 6:19–20)?

Perfect Holiness

January 26, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

A hard truth is that you can devote your entire life to pursuing Christ and still never master living in complete holiness. We can draw closer to Christ, but will never be with Him until we die. Thus, we will never realize our ultimate goal in this life, no matter how hard we try or how much we persist.

Everything else in life is possible except for living in perfect holiness. And yet, this is what we are called to in this life (1 Peter 1:15–16; Matthew 5:48). The goal is to try every day to be a little more like Jesus than the day before. It is the only goal worth having and pursuing. Do you believe that? If so, does your life reflect that belief?

Persevere to the End

January 22, 2026 by Tim Sherfy

Life is the ultimate dichotomy. It is both short and long, and we feel the tension between the two every day. Our time on this earth is not even a blip on the timeline of eternity. We are but a vapor that is here one moment, and gone the next (James 4:14; Psalm 103:15–16). But the time spent living in that “blip” can seem grueling and never-ending. This is true for our walk with Christ as well. Not that Jesus Himself is taxing in any way; His burden is light and we find our rest in Him (Matthew 11:28–30).

But the world makes living for Jesus one challenge after another. We must choose Christ over our sinful nature every second of every minute of every hour of every day. Sometimes it can feel like a grind. It is why so many fall away (Matthew 13:20–21), and why we are called to persevere to the end (Matthew 24:13).

The Return of Christ

December 29, 2025 by Tim Sherfy

The return of Christ necessitates that we live in ready and anxious anticipation of His coming. Woe to that person caught unawares at His return (Luke 21:34–36; 1 Thessalonians 5:2–3). His second coming has always been the plan, and Jesus made certain we understand that (John 14:2–3; Acts 1:11). What then should be our response? I like how J. C. Ryle put it:

Man thinking about the return of Christ contemplating the second coming with reverent fear and purpose in recognition of his need for salvation and discipleship

“Our plain duty then is to live always prepared for His return. Let us walk by faith and not by sight. Let us believe in Christ, serve Christ, follow Christ, and love Christ. So living, whenever Christ may return, we shall be ready to meet Him.” That sounds like a plan to me! Jesus is coming back, and we have no excuse not to be found ready (Matthew 24:44; Luke 12:40).
